The Cassette

By Sandra Jackson

My personal experience with cassettes started with 8-track cassettes. My first 8-track player was in the early 70’s. My father bought me one. It had a radio which was AM. I do not believe it was FM. Here in Georgia the R&B stations were on AM stations such as WAOK and WIGO. Then I was curious and found WQXI which was a Rock station on AM as well. So, I got 8-tracks you could purchase for a penny and join a music club. I did not like that if you had a favorite song you had to listen to every song on the program before you got to the one you liked. So then came Cassettes, it was nice. I could fast forward or rewind a tape. But, the only thing I did not like was when the tape got messed up in my player. I had to take it out and wind it by hand to save the tape. There were challenges in using music cassettes or tapes. But, it just shows how recording inventions have evolved. Would I like to go back to that era? No, but the music was great!
